As we close out National Poetry Month 2017 I am reminded of how blessed our community is with talented writers.  Northern Michigan has been home to Jim Harrison, Robert Traver, James Oliver Curwood and a young Ernest Hemingway.  Two of Michigan’s sons have held the position of Poet Laureate of the United States.  So it is fitting that Landmark Books brings you a special reading by award winning authors Christina Nichol and Jennifer Sperry Steinorth.

Christina Nichol is currently a member of the creative writing staff at Interlochen Arts Academy.   Nichol grew up in the Bay Area and received her MFA from the University of Florida.  She has taught creative writing five countries and was the 2012 recipient of the Rona Jaffe Writer’s Award.  Her work has appeared The Paris Review, The Rumpus, Harper’s, Subtropics, Lonely Planet, Quarter After Eight, and The Wall Street Journal.   Her first novel, “Waiting for the Electricity” was published in 2014 by Overlook Press and was the recipient of a gold medal in the 2015 California Book Awards.

Jennifer Sperry Steinorth is an award winning poet who received her MFA from Warren Wilson and also holds a builder’s license.  Her works have appeared in Jubiat, the Colorado Review, Michigan Quarterly Review and the Louisville Review to name a few.  Her first chapbook, “Forking the Swift” was published in 2010 by Michigan Writer’s Cooperative Press. She was a finalist for the New Letters Poetry Prize, The Normal School Poetry Prize and the Duckabush Prize.

This promises to be a great evening of talented writers and we hope you will attend.  This is our first reading since last fall and we hope to continue to bring events like this to you.  Copies of both authors books will be available for purchase.  Watch our website and facebook page for upcoming events.  Our next scheduled event is the Fourth Annual Type-In on June 24th.
