It’s hard to believe that opening in the Fall of 2013 Landmark Books would still be here considering the changes in the book selling world. With the rise in digital books and the decline of brick and mortar stores I’m proud to say we have persevered with the help of our loyal customers. We have been fortunate to have hosted readings and signing from some of the area’s most well-known authors and up and comers. Our imprint, Squirrel Cane Press which was founded in 1992 has published poets from New York, Delaware as well as our home state of Michigan. Some highlights include Fleda Brown, award winning author and former poet laureate of Delaware, Kieth Taylor, former head of University of Michigan’s creative writing department and Michael Delp, former head of the English Department at Interlochen Academy for the arts.
Our shop has grown from a mere 300 square feet in 2013 to 600 square feet in 2014. We then opened our first satellite space at Wilson’s Antiques in Acme, adding an additional 800 square feet to our growing business. In 2024 we added an additional satellite space at Wilson’s Antiques in downtown Traverse City. Our online inventory on Alibris has grown to nearly 3,000 books.
I’m thrilled to continue to bring some of the best in classic literature and rare books to our area. What to expect in the next thirteen years? Our continuing mission to bring you only the highest quality books at reasonable prices and books nobody else has.
We still will continue to repair and service vintage manual typewriters, as they are getting more difficult to find, we will do our best to have some for sale.
Again, thanks to our local and visiting customers for your years long patronage and hope to continue to meet or exceed your expectations.
